General purpose concrete – sometimes referred to in the industry as GENs – is a commonly used type of concrete that is suitable for all manner of housing and non-structural construction projects.

- GEN0: This wet, lean mix is relatively lightweight and is most commonly used for cavity filling, kerb bedding, blinding, haunching and backing.
- GEN1: A versatile mix, GEN1 concrete has an extensive range of applications, such as drainage works, trench-fill foundations, agricultural works and domestic foundations for sheds, walls and conservatories – the list is endless.
- GEN2: This is another mix that is perfect for use on domestic foundations. GEN2 concrete is also an ideal material for internal domestic flooring that will be finished with carpet or tiles.
- GEN3: GEN3 concrete is used to create internal floor slabs that will be finished with laminate, carpet or tiles. However, it can also be used for under-paving for patios, unreinforced bases for sheds and garages, trench-fill foundations, domestic foundations and more.
It’s important to note that general ready mix concrete should never be used externally unless it is completely covered and encased.
